‘Diálogos’ on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

‘Diálogos’ on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

Client: Oxfam GB (www.oxfam.org.uk)

The brief for this project was to produce multi-media, interactive training resources on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for mixed groups of technical, managerial and administrative staff. Marilise Turnbull produced a 10-session programme that included games, video-clips and role-plays to enable participants to better understand DRR and CCA and how they relate to water, sanitation, health, livelihoods, humanitarian, gender and urban programming, as well as to advocacy interventions. All materials were tailored to the Latin America region and were produced in Spanish.

Comments by participants include:

I didn’t know much about these topics before I took part in the Diálogo.  I really enjoyed it. It helped to demystify the concepts of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, clarify the parts that we already knew, and plant a seed of change in the minds of those who were not at all aware of the issues.

The Diálogo I participated in generated really active participation. The design of the session really helped that by including group work and interactive activities. I liked that fact that it was a safe environment to ask questions, clear up misconceptions and talk about DRR and CCA with colleagues who had different levels of knowledge in these fields.
