Evaluation of implementation of Hyogo Framework for Action in Sub-Saharan Africa

Evaluation of implementation of Hyogo Framework for Action in Sub-Saharan Africa

The Hyogo Framework for Action – a 10-year plan to make the world safer from disasters – requires countries and regional bodies, and the UNISDR itself, to report progress biannually on the globally agreed priorities for action. Marilise Turnbull, Principal Consultant of Atrato, worked with the UNISDR Africa team to produce the UN Status Report on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa (2009). The report is based on quantitative and qualitative analysis of 26 national reports, 6 reports by regional bodies, and a survey of non-governmental actors. It presents a comprehensive overview of progress towards global DRR targets, an analysis of emerging challenges relating to climate change and urbanisation, and a set of recommendations for all stakeholders.
